ABOUT ME

Putting My Experience
to Work

Thank you so much for your interest in my campaign. My name is Kamil Kanji, I have years of experience serving as your AMS VP Academic and University Affairs, working in the AMS Presidents Office, serving as a Club President, working within the Arts Undergraduate Society, and representing you on the UBC Senate and AMS Council. I am currently running to be your next Student Representative to the Board of Governors and re-election as your Senator-at-Large because these are some of the most important roles that directly have an impact on the lives of students. It would be my absolute honor to serve our UBC community and continue to make life better for students. I hope that after exploring this website I can convince you that I am the best candidate for the job.

Overall, you will see that I am someone with a great deal of experience whether that be in university advocacy, EDI, or leadership and I hope to bring these skills to my service of students. This past year, I have worked relentlessly to further and better student interests by securing $500,000 from the University to go towards restoring the AMS/GSS mental health coverage to 100%/visit , an $18,000 to $24,000 increase in minimum funding packages for every PhD student, $300,000 to go towards funding a new multidisciplinary undergrad research program , $450,000 for the AMS Food Bank to help feed our student community, $400,000 for the Centre For Accessibility to better support students with disabilities, and $250,000 in continued support for the Open Education Resources Fund to support affordable education.

My platform focuses on making life more affordable for students, obtaining increased food security funding from UBC to student-driven food security initiatives, increasing academic and physical accessibility, implementing lecture capture technology across faculties, ensuring the distribution and incentivization of open educational resources, promoting EDI strategies, opposing tuition, and making housing more accessible and affordable.
